SOCIAL HOUSING – ST. JOHN’S GROVE

St. John’s Grove will provide permanent housing within a restorative and safe environment for mothers and their children as they transition out of the St. John’s Shelter Program.  Located on a previously improved two acre site in the Sacramento Arden-Arcade neighborhood, the two-story townhouse buildings will be oriented to take advantage of natural light and solar exposure, and positioned to allow for the maximum amount of usable exterior space.  A central common building will provide social services, a multi-purpose room, an adjacent playground and common outdoor spaces.  To encourage interaction and enhance safety, each townhouse unit will have a front patio to allow moms to gather and watch over their children playing outside.  The building’s simple, clean lines will undulate and reveal open living areas and recessed entry ways while incorporating playful color accents.  When completed (expected 2014) this project will provide a welcoming, supportive, and livable community that will contribute to the improvement of the existing neighborhood.
