SACRAMENTO 2015

ARCHITECTS’ EVOLVING HOME – EAST SACRAMENTO EXPANSION

Completion: 2015
Photos: Kat Alves Photography

Originally a small two-bedroom, 1 bath home in East Sacramento, the goal for this project was to expand the living space while respecting the character of the 1927 cottage-style home. The ground floor was completely remodeled, with the expansion of the kitchen, and a family room added to connect the main living space to the backyard. The roof structure was removed with a continuous sable form to enclose a master suite, 2 bedrooms, a common bathroom, craft room, and a kids’ play loft. Features of this remodel include: high efficiency HVAC, super insulated envelope with four types of insulation, aluminum clad wood windows, fiber-cement lap siding, floor/ceiling sound insulation, systems, LED lighting throughout, low-VOC finishes, solar powered operable skylights for natural light and ventilation, dual-flush wall-hung toilets, cement tile in the bathrooms, and custom steel railings.
