DETACHED STUDIOS

As an alternative to adding on to an existing house, Ellis Architects has worked with several clients to create independent backyard structures to make the most of small residential sites in established neighborhoods, such as East Sacramento and Curtis Park. Technically termed “detached accessory structures,” these outbuildings can add valuable space to a property in the form of a guest house, home office, artist studio, or playroom, with minimal impact to the existing homes. Recent projects have included a writer’s studio, an architect’s studio, a pool house, and a guest cottage.
