A long-vacant home was demolished to make way for this new 2-story home at a visible corner in the Fab-40’s neighborhood in East Sacramento. Design challenges were to create a home that fit physically and aesthetically into the site, while responding to the client’s program and aesthetic requirements. The large front porch is an important feature to engage with and step down the scale to the street, while the side porch provides an outdoor dining space that addresses the side street. The rhythm of pop-outs, windows, exterior materials, and rooflines were composed to create texture and interest that is an important aspect of the other timeless homes in the neighborhood..
